Benchmarking Lucban for Inclusive Growth

Ang Uno sa Lahat

Rizal Philippines
August 31, 2016

We biked to Lucban last August 28-29 and since this was a two day sojourn, we happened to observe the town more closely.  While our town, Angono has excelled in publicizing the town as art capital of the Philippines, the results have not been inclusive.  The progress and growth has been in the image of the town and personalities of the artists.

However in Lucban, the fiesta and its tourism drive has resulted in more livelihood and income of its townspeople.  The kamay ni Jesus, the pahiyas have led to many people selling delicacies, pasalubong, hats, etc thus increasing their income and possibly that of munisipyo.

Lucban too has solid tourist attraction that draw millions to go to Lucban.   We too have fiesta but the traffic jams it has created and the vendors the tiangges have not created new jobs and employment for local people.

Perhaps, a realignment is needed.  Some funds can be realigned to having handicrafts, pasalubong, delicacies, food stuff manufactured in Angono? We have the fried itik as a success.  Where are the other innovation?
